Hattem resigns as Somers athletic director

SOMERS, N.Y. - Somers Director of Athletics Marc Hattem has announced his resignation, effective June 30.

In what he dubbed “A Note of Gratitude and Transition” to the community, Hattem said it’s been a privilege to serve the Somers Central School District as a PE teacher, coach, dean of students, and AD over the past nine years, with the last three as the district's athletic director.

“From the coaches, to the custodians, to the maintenance staff, to the kids and the entire Somers district and community, I thank you all,” Hattem said in an interview on Saturday evening.

Hattem declined to comment further on the reasoning behind his decision to step down.

“It’s been a whirlwind week, but I know I have the support of my coaches, and there is nothing I want more than to go out with a sectional title this spring with my head held high as the dad of three beautiful daughters, a loving husband and son,” he added. “My coaches have been incredibly supportive, and Joany (Tippett), my assistant, has been there by my side from day one.”

Hattem had previously replaced longtime athletic director Roman Catalino in 2022.

Tusker sports programs have seen success under Hattem’s tenure, including three straight Class A football state championships.

“He was great to us and a great friend,” said Somers varsity football coach Anthony DeMatteo. “We’re going to miss him.”
