In Loving Memory of Alma Martin

Alma Martin, age 98, of Somers, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. She was born on January 9, 1928, in New York City to George and Jeanne Langis and was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and stepmother. She is remembered for her generosity, quiet strength, kindness and devotion to her family.

Alma grew up in Manhattan, attending an all-girls Catholic school and volunteering as a nurse’s aide at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Greenwich Village to help during the War. She later went to Hunter College, where she studied business, and first worked at a bank and later for an investment firm on Park Avenue for many years.

In her youth, Alma loved getting dressed up and heading out with her twin sister and friends to the popular dance clubs in Manhattan, where they would dance, laugh and enjoy music. She and her twin sister, Cecile (Langis) Walsh moved from Manhattan to Bogota, NJ, where Alma met her future husband, Raymond E. Martin, one morning at a bus stop traveling to Manhattan. The attraction was immediate and at the age of 34, they married on October 6, 1962.

Shortly after marrying, the newlyweds bought a franchise called United Rent-All. After a few years, they renamed the business ACR Rent-All, which stood for Alma, Cecile (their newborn daughter) and Ray. Located in River Edge, NJ, ACR was successful for over 20 years and a great source of pride. Alma continued to work after they sold the business and moved to Toms River, NJ, in 1984. In 1999, she moved to Somers, NY, to be with her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter.

Alma always had a sense of adventure, traveling to Caribbean islands and European cities and visiting almost every state in the USA. She loved to travel with her twin sister and later in her life with her family and her sister’s husband, ready to make memories with the people she loved. Alma loved going to the theater, museums and shopping. She was an avid reader and enjoyed classical music and old movies, appreciating their timeless stories and classic charm.

Alma is survived by her daughter, Cecile, (Martin) Locurto, son-in-law, Charles Locurto, stepdaughter, Sandra Newarski, granddaughter, Christina (Locurto) Richards, her husband, Nelson Richards, and nephew, Peter Angerani.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Martin, twin sister, Cecile Walsh, brother-in-law, Peter Walsh, older sister, Jeanne Angerani, and brother-in-law, Joseph Angerani.

Her family is grateful for the love, kindness and support shown to them during this difficult time.

Forever loved, deeply missed and never forgotten.
