SOMERS, N.Y. - An Ossining man was arrested after New York State Police say he assaulted and threatened a former romantic partner at a secluded location near the Muscoot Reservoir in Somers.
Freddy Orlando Guamani Orbes, 40, was charged on Aug. 16 following an investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Somers.
Authorities say the investigation began after police were notified Aug. 15 by the White Plains Police Department of a previously reported domestic incident in the area of Route 100 and Muscoot Lane.
Police said Guamani Orbes had previously been involved in a romantic relationship with the victim. Investigators determined that Guamani Orbes allegedly went to the victim’s workplace and demanded that the victim get into his vehicle.
He then allegedly drove to a secluded wooded area near the Muscoot Reservoir, where police said he assaulted and restricted the victim’s breathing by applying pressure to their neck.
According to police, Guamani Orbes also threatened to kill the victim and prevented them from leaving the area. The victim eventually escaped and flagged down a passing motorist for assistance.
Guamani Orbes was charged with third-degree robbery, a Class D felony; first-degree unlawful imprisonment, a Class E felony; third-degree criminal mischief, a Class E felony; fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony; criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation by applying pressure, a Class A misdemeanor; attempted third-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury, a Class A misdemeanor; and third-degree menacing, a Class B misdemeanor.
Guamani Orbes was arraigned in Somers Town Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to Somers Town Court on Aug. 24.
