A Very Guyot Christmas in Somers

Posted

SOMERS, N.Y. - Once again, Arnie and Elsie Guyot’s home was turned into a winter wonderland of sparkling lights and colorful Christmas characters that thrill kids and adults alike.

The Somers couple has been hosting the event for nearly 10 years.

“It gives me great joy to do this,” Arnie told folks gathered on Dec. 2 in front of their Somerset Drive home as Elsie mingled with their guests.

There were more than 100 inflatable figures to ooh and aah over, including the Grinch, Minions, Snoopy, gnomes, and Santas galore.

Of course, one of the Santas had to be perched atop an enormous elephant, the town’s spirit animal.

The highlight was a visit from Saint Nick himself. Wading into the large crowd with a jolly ho ho ho, he posed for photos with his adoring fans.

Highway Superintendent Nick DeVito flipped the switch, lighting up the night.

Somers Super Deli served hot cocoa with mini marshmallows. Many candy canes were consumed.

Donations were collected for Friends of Karen, a North Salem-based organization that helps the families of children with life-threatening illnesses.

The local police helped out by directing traffic.
