NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The spring season is officially underway in Tiger town! Highlights from the first weeks of action included a thrilling win to mark the return of varsity baseball, and North Salem’s track team having a solid showing at the annual Tusker Twilight meet.

BASEBALL

North Salem 18, Riverside 17

Wednesday, April 1

Baseball returned to North Salem in a big way with a wild walk-off win over Riverside. Freshman Colby Baer got the start for the Tigers, with Alex Hoffman (2-3, 2-run HR), William Trickel (2-3, 2 RBI), and Ryan Bynes (2-3, 2 RBI) all having standout performances. Freshman Brayden Kennedy notched his first varsity win.

Walter Panas 13, North Salem 3

Tuesday, March 31

The Tigers dropped their season opener on the road. Marissa Ferrara (3-4, 2 runs), Cora Kennedy (2-4, 2 RBI), and Kathryn Ocdenaria (1 RBI) played strong in the effort, with Erika Saez taking the loss on the mound.

Rye Neck 16, North Salem 2

Wednesday, April 1

The squad was back on the road the following day, coming up short against the Panthers. Ferrara went 2-2 and scored a pair of runs, while Riley Sullivan went 1-2.

Haldane 7, North Salem 5

Wednesday, April 1

North Salem’s spring break gauntlet continued as they came up short in the second game of the double bill at home. Saez had 3 RBI and Ocdenaria went 2-4. Sullivan went 2-4 at the plate and struck out 5.

Tusker Twilight

Friday, March 27

The Tigers kicked off the season against tough competition at Somers’ Tusker Twilight. Jennifer Killeen (2nd - 400M, 10th - Shot Put), Kathryn Dupree (6th - 400M), Emma Guatier (10th - 400M, 4th - Long Jump), Grace Barbarossa (6th - Long Jump, 8th - High Jump), Freyja Smith (5th - Long Jump, 5th - Shot Put), Kinsey Levesque (6th - Shot Put), and Skyler Smith (7th - Long Jump) all had standout days for North Salem.

Wappingers 16, North Salem 9

Monday, March 23

The Tigers took a tough loss to open the season. Noemi Torres (2 goals, 8 draw controls), Abby Cassidy (2 goals), Emma Greenberg (2 goals), Kylie Robinson (2 goals), and Sienna Paldin (1 goal) all helped power the offense. Kylie Dell had 3 saves, splitting keeper duties with 8th grader Emma Hickey who notched a pair of saves in her varsity debut.

Arlington 9, North Salem 6

Friday, March 27

The squad couldn’t overcome the Admirals at home. Torres had a pair of goals, with Cindrich, Paldin, Greenberg, and Sydney Merriman adding one each. Kerri Nemeth had 5 ground balls and 4 draw controls and Dell had 7 saves in the effort.

BOYS LACROSSE

Valhalla 16, North Salem 9

Thursday, March 26

The Tigers took a tough loss on the road after jumping out to an early lead against the Vikings. Max Cotrone (4 goals), Andrew DeLarco (1 goal, 2 assists), Drew Karam (1 goal, 2 assists), and Nico Rouse (1 goal) powered the offense, with Tyler Bynes notching 17 saves in goal.

Providing another highlight for the Tigers was freshman Owen Killeen, who netted a pair of goals in his varsity debut.

"I was very proud of our kids for giving a good effort, and we'll get better as a season goes on," said Coach Vin Savastano. "I'm so happy for Owen getting his first varsity goal and scoring two goals in his first ever varsity game."
