Richard L. C. Allen, affectionately known as "Bobby" to many, peacefully departed this life on August 19, 2026, at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home. A beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Richard touched countless lives with his generosity, warmth, and unwavering spirit.

Born on August 31, 1938, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Bobby was the cherished son of Magdalene "Mary" Allen and Alvin Parson. He was preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Marilyn (Lynn) Allen and Phyllis Johnson, as well as his mother, Mary, and his father, Alvin.

Bobby was a man of remarkable talent, resourcefulness, and generosity. A true "jack of all trades," he spent his life building homes and touching countless lives through his work in home renovations. His career culminated in his role as a carpenter with the Urban Home Ownership Corporation, a job he loved despite his playful grumbling about the "lazy workers."

A proud veteran, Bobby served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1957, achieving the rank of Fireman where he diligently operated and maintained shipboard machinery. After his service, he returned to his community with the same spirit of dedication and service.

After completing his military service, Bobby faced many ups and downs—seasons of struggle, hardship, joy, and renewal. Through every chapter, he believed God carried him, shaping his resilience and deepening his faith.

Bobby was a devoted member of the New York City Church of Christ, where he found spiritual renewal and was baptized on July 1, 2018, at the age of 80. His faith was lived, not just spoken. He was always ready to help—whether moving equipment, offering encouragement, or simply sharing a kind word. His gentle spirit, generosity, and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know him.

Beyond his professional and spiritual endeavors, Bobby was a man of diverse interests. He loved fishing, bowling, chess, and was an avid reader and search-a-word puzzle enthusiast. Whether playing horseshoe, dominos, spades, or pool, he enjoyed friendly competition and camaraderie. Bobby also had a deep love for football and swimming, often sharing these passions with family and friends.

Bobby’s greatest pride was his family. Together with three remarkable women, Carolyn Allen, Kathleen Brown, and Annette Bonets, he brought into the world a family whose lives reflect the values, strength, and love. His legacy lives on through his children: Richard Allen, Wanda (Michael) Howard, Richard (Francine) Brown, Sheerre Brown, Geneva (Jeffrey) McAllister, Aisha Bonets, Omar Bonets, and Andre Bonets.

He was a proud and loving grandfather to Syreeta, Kareem, Zimmy, Brandon, Sean, Richard (Richie), Richard (CJ), Richana, Demetrius (DJ), and Nassir and was blessed with seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Joyce Watford, Shirley Spurill, and Judith (Judy) Green, along with a host of extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Putnam Ridge Nursing Home, The Plaza at Clover Lake, Montrose Assisted Living Facility, Montrose VA Hospital, and his church family for their unwavering care, support, and kindness throughout Richard's journey. Your prayers, dedication, and love brought comfort and strength not only to Richard but also to all who loved him.

Bobby’s life was a rich tapestry woven with love, faith, service, hard work, and joy. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and generosity that will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community for generations to come.
