NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Two of North Salem’s own are among Westchester County’s Senior Citizens Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025.
Beverly Golisano and Jinx Remson -- and 59 other seniors from across 33 municipalities -- were honored for their achievements at a ceremony on Dec. 5 in Tarrytown.
The town's Recreation Department recently congratulated the two for “their outstanding service and lasting contributions to our community” and thanked them for their “continued dedication, compassion, and commitment to making North Salem a wonderful place for residents of all ages!”
Golisano
Golisano, a former recreation superintendent, spent more than 40 years developing and growing the town’s youth, adult, and senior programs.
“Her leadership helped shape the Recreation Department into the vibrant, community-centered program it is today,” recreation officials said in a social media post.
Golisano helped develop new parks, expanded athletic fields, and oversaw the creation of the pavilion at Joe Bohrdrum Park.
She also “fostered intergenerational engagement” by employing seniors, students, and parents at the town’s day camp.
“Through decades of leadership, Beverly met the unmet need for accessible, community-centered recreation and created a legacy of belonging, wellness, and civic pride that continues to benefit North Salem today,” said the folks who nominated her for the county honor.
Although retired from that position, she continues to contribute through her work with the Recreation Advisory Committee and the North Salem Senior Citizens Club, it added.
Remson
Remson, the club’s president and a member of the Recreation Advisory Committee, “continues to strengthen community connections across generations” by supporting the town’s day camp hiring, organizing events, and planning informational programming for seniors.
These “tireless efforts” ensure that “no one in our community feels isolated, and that seniors remain engaged, informed, and supported in every aspect of their lives,” recreation officials concluded.
As president of the NSSCC, she “reinvigorated” things by introducing “engaging programming, recruiting informative speakers, organizing day trips, brining new energy to monthly meetings with new, fun activities and games, and modernizing communication with email newsletters and a club Facebook page,” according to the folks who nominated her for the county honor.
Long Tradition
The county has been feting seniors in this fashion for the past 43 years.
This year's program will present Dr. Nicholas Cicchetti of Hawthorne and Lena Anderson, Esq., of White Plains, with top honors.
Four seniors will be recognized as “Distinguished Honorees.”
They are: Helen Frankel of Yonkers, Janice King Griffith of White Plains, Colette Phipps of New Rochelle, and Meow Yee of Millwood.
County Executive Ken Jenkins said he was “deeply honored” to recognize the Class of 2025 and praised the Hall of Fame as “one of the county’s most meaningful traditions” because it gave Westchester the “opportunity to express our gratitude to the seniors whose leadership, service, and dedication have strengthened our communities.
Mae Carpenter, commissioner of the Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS), echoed that sentiment.
“This is what building communities is all about!” she said, thanking honorees for “their incredible contributions to improving the lives of others.”
Good to Know
Over the past 43 years, more than 1,700 seniors have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Nominations are made by community members and honorees are selected by a panel of judges.
Hosts of the annual ceremony were the county’s DSPS, its Department of Parks, Recreation, and Conservation, and the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services.
Sponsors of this year’s event were New York-Presbyterian, Wartburg, and the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services.
