NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - After lots of discussion about how governmental operations were going to carry on while Town Hall is out of the loop, North Salem officials decided recently that the most efficient solution would be to rent a trailer.
The 10X40 mobile office will be parked parallel to Loebdell House, where the town clerk, deputy town clerk, and finance director have been temporarily squeezed in.
Loebdell, located at the Titicus Road complex, already houses the town assessor’s, tax receiver’s, and historian’s offices.
The building department will continue to operate out The Annex (274 Titicus Road), which sits between Loebdell (270 Titicus Road) and Delancey Hall (266 Titicus Road), the circa-1760s Georgian-style building that’s undergoing major renovations.
The Town Hall project started as a paint job and then morphed into a much bigger thing after rotten sills and beams were discovered.
All the relevant phone numbers will remain the same.
The town court and police department (66 June Road), the highway department (250 June Road), and the recreation department (3 Owens Road) are also not changing.
The trailer is expected to be installed by the end of August. It will contain offices for Town Supervisor Warren Lucas and his chief of staff, Janine Kourakos, plus a small conference room and a bathroom.
The Town Board on Aug. 12 voted to authorize the supervisor to sign an agreement with Massachusetts-based Triumph Modular Inc. to rent the trailer for nine months at a cost of approximately $15,000.
