North Salem Varsity Roundup: Tigers find their stride in April

Cindrich hits 150 goal milestone

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - With April in full swing, business has picked up in Tiger town! Recent highlights include girls lacrosse picking up a pair of big wins, the golf team kicking off their league title defense, and several younger athletes making a statement.

GIRLS LACROSSE

North Salem 17, Keio 6

Monday, April 6

The squad kicked off April with a big road win that saw multiple Tigers get in on the action. Abby Cassidy and Ashley Cindrich each had a pair of goals, with Sydney Merriman, Kerri Nemeth, Noemi Torres, Alana Cerasoli, Sienna Paldin, Jaella Henry, Grace Schaeffer, Zoe Elias, and Kylie Robinson all chipping in one each.

A trio of younger Tigers also announced their presence, with 7th graders Kayleigh Long (2 goals) and Addie Timone (1 goal) and 8th grader Sophie Braz (2 goals) all recording their first varsity tallies.

Emma Hickey and Kylie Dell had two saves each, alongside Allison Leavy who had four saves to get her name on the varsity score sheet for the first time.

Friday, April 10

The spotlight belonged to senior Ashley Cindrich, who scored 5 times to surpass 150 goals for her career. Cindrich also added the exclamation point late in overtime, scoring off a feed from Abby Cassidy to send Pawling packing.

Cassidy (1 goal, 3 assists), Merriman (3 goals, 1 assist), Robinson (1 goal) Torres (2 goals) and Ella Santis (1 goal) all helped power the win. Dell had 8 saves in goal.

Brewster 17, North Salem 10

Tuesday, April 14

The Tigers came up short against a tough Bears squad at home. Cindrich had four goals and Emma Greenberg scored a pair in the effort, with Hickey notching 5 saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

North Salem 10, Ardsley 9

Tuesday, April 7

The Tigers picked up their first winning  the season behind three-goal efforts from Max Cotrone, Nico Rouse, and Drew Karam, with Owen Killeen also scoring. Tyler Bynes had 19 saves.

Red Hook 17, North Salem 10

Saturday, April 11

The squad couldn’t keep the momentum rolling at home. Cotrone (5 goals), Karam (3 goals) and Rouse (2 goals) once again led the offense.

Edgemont 13, North Salem 12

Monday, April 13

The Tigers came up just short despite a 7-goal effort from Cotrone. Karam added three and Rouse scored a pair, with Liam Coughlan and Brady Armstrong notching assists. Bynes had 5 saves in goal.

GOLF

North Salem 216, Mahopac 227

Monday, April 13

The squad kicked off their league title defense in style, downing Mahopac at Centennial Golf Club. James Nemeth battled through injury to card a 39, with Lucas Salvatore and Connor Meehan shooting 39 and 41, respectively.

"The boys got off to hot starts, taking commanding leads in each of their matchups," said Coach Chris Brandt. "An early victory helps us begin our pursuit of back-to-back league championships."

SOFTBALL

North Salem 17, Pelham 11

Monday, April 6

North Salem downed the Pelicans behind standout showings from Marissa Ferrara (4-5) and Brianna Rodriguez (3 RBI). Freshman Riley Sullivan struck out 9 to earn her first varsity win.

Putnam Valley 19, North Salem 7

Wednesday, April 8

Put Valley broke up a stalemate in the forth inning to pull away. Sophia Aqeel had 3 RBI on the day.

Pawling 12, North Salem 11

Friday, April 10

The Tigers lost a heartbreaker as Pawling walked off in the bottom of the 7th. Aqeel had 2 RBI and Cora Kennedy notched 4 stolen bases.

BASEBALL

North Salem 3, YMA 2

Monday, April 6

Alex Hoffman went 5 strong innings before Colby Baer came in for relief. Ryan Bynes (2-2, RBI) Brayden Kennedy (1-3) and Jack Braz (1-3) helped power the offense. 

North Salem 11, Alexander Hamilton 3

Wednesday, April 8

Baer earned his first varsity win as the Tigers came out on top on the road. Hoffman (2-4, 3 RBI) Dean Mierzwa (3-3, RBI) and Ben Currie (2-3, RBI) were solid at the plate. 

Dover 12, North Salem 6

Saturday, April 11

The squad was overpowered on the road. Hoffman went 4-4 and hit for the cycle.

Blind Brook 2, North Salem 1

Tuesday, April 14

The squad came up short against Blind Brook. Hoffman went 5 innings, striking out 8 and going 1-1 with a double and an RBI.
