NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The Tigers may have closed out the season, but this year’s team has set a new standard for girls lacrosse in North Salem.
After enduring a slow start, the squad caught fire down the stretch and rode the momentum of a 9-game winning streak into the postseason. Wins over Westlake and Haldane propelled the Tigers to their first semifinal appearance since 2019.
Squaring off with #1 seeded Pleasantville on Saturday, May 30, North Salem saw the season end with a 17-3 loss to a talented Panther squad.
“Winning the first round and quarterfinal games at home was amazing,” said Coach Don Merriman. “We have had the goal for several years to win that second playoff game and advance to semifinals, so that was great for us.”
The team finished with an overall record of 13-6, with a number of players achieving incredible personal milestones.
Senior standouts Ashley Cindrich (200 points, 200 goals), Noemi Torres (100 goals), and Abby Cassidy (100 points) provided highlights all season long, with the trio earning All-League honors alongside junior Alana Cerasoli and sophomore Sydney Merriman.
Junior Emma Greenberg and sophomore Sienna Paldin were selected to the All-League Second Team, with Torres also earning an All-Section nod and Cindrich being selected to the All-Section Second Team.
Senior Zoe Elias was also chosen as a recipient of the Lower Hudson Girls Lacrosse Coaches Association Golden Dozen Scholar Athlete Award, which recognizes scholar-athletes who combine ability and teamwork on the field with success in the classroom and contribution to their communities.
With the season complete, the Tigers will lose Elias, Cindrich, Torres, Cassidy, and goalkeeper Kylie Dell to graduation.
