NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - For North Salem’s girls basketball team, a section championship just wasn’t in the cards this year.
Entering the tournament as the #2 seed, the Tigers steamrolled Keio Academy in the semifinals to set up a showdown with top-seeded Tuckahoe on Saturday, March 7.
On the big stage at the Westchester County Center, North Salem fell behind early in the Tiger tussle. Tuckahoe opened the contest with a 6-0 run, setting the tone early. The squad would rally to take the lead briefly in the second frame before going into the half down 29-24.
Despite their best efforts to keep pace, Tuckahoe overpowered the Tigers down the stretch, eventually coming out on top 67-50.
Sophomore Maddy Horel and freshman Kerri Nemeth were named to the All-Tournament Team.
With the season now complete, North Salem will bid farewell to senior captain Noemi Torres.
