NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Last season may not have produced the victories North Salem field hockey was hoping for, but the experience could prove valuable as the Tigers head into their 2026 campaign.
The Tigers endured an extremely difficult schedule a year ago before seeing their season come to an end with a loss to Bronxville in the Class C quarterfinals. Now, with a more manageable slate of games and a veteran group leading the way, the squad could be poised for more success and a deeper postseason run.
“We are very excited for the new season," said Coach Jen Frohman.
Frohman will have eight returning seniors to provide leadership in Kylie Robinson, Robin Pockriss, Leah Malvino, Keely Aparicio, Anya Ghosh, Anya Ghosh, Olivia Margolin and Molly Collura.
The Tigers also return juniors Noelle and Kathryn Dupree, along with sophomores Ella Santis, Maddy Bridges and Maya Melendez.
That returning group will be particularly important as North Salem welcomes nine newcomers to the roster.
“This group has done a fantastic job helping bring together the new players added to varsity,” Frohman said.
The Tigers will draw on the lessons learned from a challenging 2025 season, when victories were difficult to come by against a demanding slate.
“Although last year, we had an extremely tough schedule and struggled to find victories, we learned many things that we are building off of this season,” Frohman added.
The schedule should provide the team with more opportunities for success, although there will still be plenty of challenges. Bronxville and Pleasantville remain among the powerhouses on the schedule, while the Tigers will also face larger schools such as Nyack, Mahopac and RCK.
The Tigers are also dealing with some injuries as the season begins, but Frohman is hopeful the team will become stronger as the campaign progresses.
“We are still recovering, but through the season we hope to grow and be a contender in Class C," she concluded.
The Tigers are set to kick off the season at home against Rye Neck on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 5 p.m.
