Renovation project nears completion at North Salem's Delancey Hall

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - North Salem’s historic Delancey Hall is finally looking like its old self again – from the outside at least.

“It was an exciting day today on the Town Hall campus! The scaffolding has been removed! We look forward to the interior work being completed and moving back in!” the town announced on Tuesday, July 28 on its Facebook page.

The 18th-century Georgian-style Town Hall on Titicus Road has been undergoing major structural and cosmetic restoration work.

What started as a routine exterior paint job in 2023 escalated into a $900,000 project after engineers discovered a compromised roof beam, requiring internal temporary supports.

Town officials were relocated to a mobile trailer and other town office space in the meantime.

Among the exterior things that had to be done were the repair and reinstallation of circa-1760s leaky windows, the restoration of siding, replacement of rotted wood, and painting.

Inside, painting and wall replacement still needs to be done. Carpeting will be updated, the floors sanded, walls repaired, and an outdated kitchenette removed.

The town is also in the process of installing energy efficient heat pumps.

According to Supervisor Warren Lucas, Delancey Hall could be back in action by the end of September.
