NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - On Saturday, Sept. 13, North Salem’s cross country squad traveled to Somers for their first sizable test of the season at the Big Red Invitational.
And true to form, the Tigers didn’t disappoint.
Marissa Ferrara and Freyja Smith finished 23rd and 31st, respectively, in the Girls D3 5K, while freshman Shannon Moravick came in 13th in the 1.5 mile. Moravick’s effort was enough to earn North Salem a second place freshman team finish behind Pearl River.
On the boys side, Tiger runners turned in respectable times across the board.
Drew Karam (18th) Skyler Smith (19th) and Jonathan Alves (100th) all ran well in the D3 5K, and Everett Fryer (11th) Andrew Barnett (14th) Nick Petronzi (15th), Mateo Mergeche (65th) Aaron Brown (67th), Andrew Petronzi (75th), Chase Conterelli (77th), and Michael DiMase (136th) continued to improve in the freshman/sophomore 1.5 mile.
“It was truly a super start to the season,” said Coach Chris Gould. “Shannon and our freshman boys set the tone for the day with excellent races, and we are well ahead of last year's start. That's very encouraging.”
