BOWLING
The boys team came up just short of league title when they squared off with Lakeland on Jan. 22 at Cortlandt Lanes. The Tigers opened the night with a thrilling 775–768 win over Lakeland, but dropped the next two games, allowing Walter Panas to secure the crown.
Despite the narrow miss, the team finished as the league’s top small school for the first time in at least a decade, edging out Hen Hud for the honor.
North Salem had a dominant performance against Hen Hud on Jan. 21, sweeping the three-game match by scores of 853–776, 809–679, and 791–738. Jericho Hartley led the way with games of 255, 200, and 243, while Ben Guiliano added a high game of 193.
Earlier in January, North Salem earned two wins in a three-game match against Walter Panas on Jan. 7. Hartley posted a high game of 205, and Guiliano rolled a team-best 224 in the contest.
The Tigers followed that up with a clean sweep of Ossining on Jan. 8, winning 669–604, 783–583, and 823–649. Hartley once again led the effort with a high game of 207, while Guiliano recorded a 221.
The girls team has put together an impressive and steadily improving season, entering the stretch run as one of the league’s most dangerous small-school programs.
Since the start of formal match play on Dec. 8, North Salem has posted a 7–2 record, winning seven of its nine matches overall. The team closed its regular-season schedule on Dec. 22 with a demanding slate, as the final four matches featured the league’s top four teams among the nine total schools. Sitting in fourth place heading into that stretch, North Salem rose to the challenge, winning three of the four matches to solidify its standing.
The defining moment of the season came in a rematch against Panas, one of the league’s top two teams throughout the year. After being swept in their first meeting on Jan. 7, North Salem responded emphatically on Jan. 15, turning the tables with a complete sweep of its own and claiming all seven points in the match — a statement win that underscored the team’s growth and resilience.
Beyond the results, the season has been marked by noticeable development across the roster. The girls have not only raised their individual averages and sharpened their skills, but also built a stronger sense of teamwork, leaning on one another in key moments to climb the league standings.
North Salem will compete in the final position round on Wednesday, Jan. 28, before turning its attention to postseason play. The team has already secured a berth at sectionals, which will be held at Fishkill Bowl on Feb. 9, qualifying as one of the top two small schools in the league.
Individually, Erika Saez and Freyja Smith have delivered the season’s top performances for North Salem, posting high games of 209 and 173, respectively — numbers that reflect the team’s upward trajectory as it heads into the postseason.
