NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - North Salem’s track team capped off a strong season with several solid showings, including standout performances from two sophomore standouts.

On May 30, Jennifer Killeen took the Class C championship in discus while Freyja Smith finished third in the Pentathlon.

The following week at the state qualifier meet, Smith finished 2nd in the Pentathlon, Killeen took 2nd in discus, and Skyler Smith and Jonathan Alves took 4th and 5th in the 400M IH, respectively.

“It was an awesome finish to the season with terrific performances,” said Coach Chris Gould. “Jennifer was about a foot and a half away from making the State Meet. She made incredible advances this season.”

Smith would provide one last highlight for the year at the Patriot Plunker meet on June 10, shattering her own school record with a 103’ 8” javelin toss.

“We are all excited to see what new heights she can reach over the next couple of years,” Gould added. “We made some technical adjustments and she applied them wonderfully to get that impressive mark. Throwing over 100’ is a huge accomplishment.”
