NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - North Salem will be seeking input from residents on a code amendment that would establish new water usage rates.
A public hearing is set for 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Town Meeting Hall, 66 June Road.
The Town Board establishes rules and regulations for the following municipal water districts: Croton Falls, Candlewood Park, Sunset Ridge, Salem Acres, and Pabst.
Supervisor Warren Lucas noted that the rates being proposed represent the maximum amount the town would be allowed to charge. The actual rate would be based on whatever’s needed to cover each budget so lesser amounts could be charged.
They are:
SUNSET RIDGE
$ 11 per 1,000 gallons on the first 10,000 gallons per year, for the maximum volume of 10,000 gallons in the calendar year; $11 per 1,000 gallons from 10,000 gallons to 90,000 gallons per year; and $ 14 per 1,000 gallons from 90,001 gallons and up.
CROTON FALLS
$ 11 per 1,000 gallons for the minimum volume of 10,000 gallons in the calendar year, and $14 per 1,000 gallons thereafter.
CANDLEWOOD PARK
$9 per 1,000 gallons, for the minimum volume of 10,000 gallons in the calendar year, and $11 per 1,000 gallons thereafter.
SALEM ACRES
Until meters are installed, water charges will be split evenly amongst the 44 residences, as well as any future residences or entities, receiving water from the system.
When meters are installed, water usage charges will be set based on usage at a rate of $11 per 1,000 gallons with a minimum rate based on 15,000 gallons per year.
In the year of meter installation, the cost for water will be prorated based on the percentage of the year with meters and without meters.
PABST
Again, once meters are installed, water charges will be split evenly amongst the 73 residences, as well as any future residences or entities, receiving water from the system.
Water usage charges will be set based on usage at a rate of $20 per 1,000 gallons with a minimum rate based on 15,000 gallons per year.
In the year of meter installation, the cost for water will be prorated based on the percentage of the year with meters and without meters.
GOOD TO KNOW
All capital improvements in each of the districts will be paid on an “ad valorem” basis, or the assessed value of each lot within the district’s boundaries.
The rates, if the town passes the law amending its code, will take effect once filed with the secretary of state in Albany.
