NORTH SALEM, N.Y.- The North Salem Recreation Department and the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library are teaming up to help brighten the day of local seniors and others in need of a little love with handmade Valentine’s Day cards filled with kind messages and encouragement.
No supplies? No problem.
Card kits can be picked up at the town’s community center at 3 Owens Road, Croton Falls, or the library, which is located at 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.
There are boxes at both locations where the finished products can be dropped off by Friday, Feb. 6.
Valentine’s Day is Saturday, Feb. 14.
The goal is to round up 600 cards which will be mailed or hand-delivered.
The rec folks are also hosting a Valentine’s Day Extravaganza Event on Friday, Feb. 13 at 12 noon.
Starting this week, it is asking anyone who stops at the community center to write down the name of their favorite romantic movie and put it in a suggestion box.
Then, between Monday, Feb. 2 and Friday, Feb. 6 folks can vote on the top three suggestions.
On Feb. 13, everyone will get to watch the winning film, enjoy some snacks, and do some Valentine’s Day crafts.
Other favorite events at the community center have included the live music series, aka “Harmony on the Hill.”
On Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. David Wolff will perform and on Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m., Wandering Jack.
Free tickets are available on the Recreation Department’s website, https://www.northsalemny.org/recreation.
