North Salem Girls Soccer and Field Hockey Make Playoff Exits

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - A year removed from simultaneously capturing section championships, a repeat for North Salem’s field hockey and girls soccer teams wasn’t in the cards.

Despite coming up short in their respective playoff campaigns, the Tigers refused to go quietly.

Field hockey was up first to begin their postseason push, entering the sectional tournament as the #5 seed and squaring off against #4 Bronxville on Oct. 29.

The Tigers got on the board first with sophomore Kylie Robinson knocking in a deflection off a corner by captain Sophia Aversano.

North Salem would cling to the 1-0 lead until the 4th quarter when Bronxville finally managed to break through the visitor’s defense with a pair of late goals in quick succession.

The Tigers fought tooth and nail to even things up, but time ultimately expired on the game and the season. The squad ended the year with an overall record of 9-7.

“This very young team loved being together, worked extremely hard throughout the season to improve, and fought hard until the end,” said Coach Jen Frohman.

With the season finished, the Tigers will lose only one senior to graduation in captain Sophia Aversano.

“This group of returners really only know winning, and they are bound and determined to have an even better season next year and return to the sectional final so they can reclaim the title once again,” Frohman added.

Several days later, girls soccer would look to repeat as section champions as they faced Tuckahoe on Nov. 2 at Arlington High School.

Much like their field hockey peers, the Tigers found themselves on the losing end of a heartbreaking 2-1 game.

Down by a pair, freshman Sienna Paldin scored to cut the lead in half, but it wouldn’t be enough to keep North Salem’s season alive.

With the year concluded, the Tigers will bid farewell to seniors Nicky Berganza, Taylor Fogle, and Samantha Yoel.
