NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - After a pair of heartbreaking playoff losses last year, both Tiger teams were back under the bright lights of the Westchester County Center on March 1.

Last season, the girls squad was upended in a semifinal heartbreaker against Haldane while the boys team fell to rival Tuckahoe in the finals.

The memories of those disappointments were short lived as North Salem’s squads got down to business, punching their tickets to the section championship game in dominant fashion.

The boys team was up first, entering the tournament as the #2 seed and squaring off with Children’s Village.

North Salem had an answer for the Hawks at every turn, taking a 40-19 lead into the half and cruising to an 86-50 victory.

Jameson Juan (21 points), Lucas Virzi (14 points), Sean Randall (13 points), and Max Cotrone (11 points) led the charge for the Tigers.

North Salem will now get a chance at redemption in a rematch of last year’s section title game with Tuckahoe on Saturday, March 7, at 1:30 p.m.

Next, it would be the girls team’s time to shine as the Tigers took the court in a semifinal matchup against Keio Academy.

North Salem set the tone early with a 25-0 run to start the game, outworking the Unicorns on both ends of the court.

Kerri Nemeth (16 points) and Noemi Torres (15 points) led the scoring as the squad showcased their customary cohesion and determination on the way to an emphatic 71-36 win to earn an appearance in the section finals.

The Tigers are now set to square off with top-seeded Tuckahoe at the Westchester County Center on Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m.
