NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - North Salem’s boys basketball team has etched their names into the history books.
After their comeback win over Tuckahoe to capture the section championship, the Tigers kept the momentum going with a 66-40 win over Pierson High School to bring home the first regional title in school history.
Taking the court at Longwood High School on March 14, North Salem jumped out to an early lead courtesy of a pair of three-pointers from junior Lucas Virzi.
After the electric start, the squad never looked back.
Virzi would finish the day with 26 points, including a clutch three-pointer at the buzzer to close out the third quarter to give the Tigers a commanding 50-25 lead.
Jameson Juan (10 points, 4 rebounds), Andrew DeLarco (8 points, 6 rebounds), Max Cotrone (8 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists), and Sean Randall (5 points, 4 rebounds) all helped showcase North Salem’s trademark offensive cohesion to secure the regional crown.
The Tigers are now set to square off with Berne-Knox-Westerlo in the state semifinals on Saturday, March 21, at 3:15 p.m. at Binghamton’s Visions Veterans Memorial Arena.
