NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - On April 23 members of the New York State Police Troop K Traffic Incident Management Unit carried out an Operation Hard Hat enforcement detail along Interstate 684 in North Salem.
Operation Hard Hat initiatives are designed to improve safety for both roadway workers and drivers in active construction zones. Each year, work zone crashes lead to serious injuries and fatalities, often caused by speeding, distracted driving, and other dangerous behavior.
As part of the detail, troopers were stationed within the work zone to monitor traffic and identify violations as they occurred, taking enforcement action when necessary.
Over the course of four hours, troopers issued 72 tickets.
Authorities are reminding motorists to slow down, stay alert, and move over when approaching work zones and emergency personnel.
