Lucas brings independence and experience

Dear Editor,

My family has called North Salem home for a little over 50 years. By comparison, the Lucas family has been part of this community for generations. Warren Lucas grew up here, and his father served our community as postmaster. I remember his father as a kind and decent man, and I believe Warren has carried that same sense of community and responsibility with him throughout his life.

I have known Warren for more than 30 years, dating back to 1994, when I first became involved with the North Salem Republican Committee. During my years of involvement, including my time serving as chairman of the committee, Warren helped me tremendously. Over those many years, I had the opportunity to see firsthand the kind of person he is.

One quality I have always respected about Warren is his independence. He is fair and unbiased, and he does what he genuinely believes is right. That does not mean he always follows the party line. In fact, that independence has sometimes landed him in hot water with the party. But Warren has never struck me as someone whose decisions are driven simply by politics. In his heart, he wants what he believes is best for North Salem and for the people who live here.

Warren's commitment to this town did not begin with a campaign. For years, Warren and his wife Susan have volunteered their time and remained actively involved in the community his family has called home for generations.

There is something to be said for that kind of history and commitment. Change simply for the sake of change is not necessarily a good thing. When a community has people who have demonstrated over many years that they care deeply about the town and its future, their experience and dedication deserve to be recognized.

Having known Warren for more than 30 years, I believe his record, independence, fairness, and longstanding commitment to North Salem speak for themselves. My wife Danielle and I are proud to stand behind Warren Lucas and recognize the many years he has devoted to the North Salem community. We wholeheartedly support and endorse Warren Lucas for re-election as Town Supervisor.

-James A. Stiehl, North Salem
