Tigers take on Red Raider Relays

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - With the calendar set to flip to May, several Tiger squads have been kicking into high gear! Recent highlights include big wins from the golf and girls lacrosse teams, as well as a solid showing against tough competition at the Red Raider Relays from North Salem track.

TRACK

Red Raider Relays

April 17 & 18

The Tigers were in action on back to back days at North Rockland’s Red Raider Relays, facing off against more than 30 teams from across the state. Highlights of the day included Freyja Smith taking 3rd in javelin with a personal best toss of 105’4”, the girls freshman/sophomore sprint medley relay team (Kathryn Dupree, Noelle Dupree, Shailey Ray, Shannon Moravick) taking 5th place, and the boys varsity sprint medley relay team (Jonathan Alves, Everett Fryer, James Alves, Skyler Smith) finishing 4th.

Monday, April 20

The squad faced stiff competition at home, with Shannon Moravick (1st, 3000m), Freyja Smith (3rd, 100m hurdles, 1st, shot put, 1st discuss, 1st, javelin), Jennifer Killeen (2nd, discus), Kathryn Dupree (2nd, 400m), Jonathan Alves (2nd, 400m, 2nd, 400m hurdles), and Emma Gautier (2nd, 400m hurdles) turning in strong performances. The girls 4x100m relay team (Shailey Ray, Katherine Mendez, Leah Nissman, Emma Gautier) finished 2nd.

Monday, April 20

Bad weather couldn't stop North Salem from coming out on top of a Tiger tussle at Centennial Golf Club. James Nemeth carded a 40.

North Salem 219, Putnam Valley 252

Tuesday, April 21

The squad was back at it the following day for another big win at Centennial. Aidan Santis (43) and Jameson Juan (45) both shot career lows, with Juan capping off his round with a birdie and an eagle. Nemeth carded a 41 and 8th grader Liam Barrett shot a 43 in his first varsity match.

Wednesday, April 22

Nemeth carded a 37 with 4 birdies to keep the squad rolling.

Monday, April 27

The Tigers improved to 5-0 with a win over the Rams at Centennial. Senior Lucas Salvatore earned his first sectional bid.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Carmel 10, North Salem 9

Saturday, April 18

The Tigers came up short on the road against the Rams.

Noemi Torres (2 goals, 2 assists), Jaella Henry (2 goals), Ashley Cindrich (2 goals), Abby Cassidy (1 goal, 2 assists), Kylie Robinson (1 goal), and Kerry Nemeth (1 goal) all played strong in the effort. Emma Hickey had 15 saves.

Wednesday, April 22

The squad rebounded with a big road win with Cindrich (4 goals, 1 assist), Abby Cassidy (3 goals, 1 assist), Robinson (3 goals) and Torres (3 goals) leading the charge. Nemeth added a pair, with Henry, Ella Santis, and Sienna Paldin also finding the back of the net. Sydney Merriman had 4 assists and Emma Greenberg assisted on a pair. Kylie Dell had 4 saves

Saturday, April 25

The Tigers kept rolling on the road behind a standout performance from Cindrich, who notched 4 goals and an assist to record her 200th career point. Cassidy and Torres each netted a pair, with Hickey (6 saves) and Dell (3 saves) splitting keeper duties.

North Salem 15, Blind Brook 9

Monday, April 27

The squad returned from the road trip and kept their foot on the gas behind solid showings from Torres (4 goals, 1 assist), Cassidy (4 goals), Cindrich (3 goals, 2 assists), Merriman (2 goals, 1 assist), and Greenberg (2 goals.)

Sleepy Hollow 16, North Salem 2

Wednesday, April 15

The Tigers took a tough loss at home. Drew Karam scored both North Salem goals with Max Cotrone adding a pair of assists.

Eastchester 16, North Salem 2

Friday, April 17

Karam and Cotrone had one goal each.

Arlington 18, North Salem 3

Thursday, April 23

Karam (2 goals), Nico Rouse (2 assists) and Owen Killeen (1 assist) handled the scoring in the effort.

“Even though we lost, the kids are continuing to work hard and improve each day,” said Coach Vin Savastano. “We have a very young team and we will be going through some growing pains this year. It will only get us better for many years to come.

Haldane 9, North Salem 6

Thursday, April 16

The Tigers came up short on the road. Marissa Ferrara went 2 for 4 and Kat Ocdenaria and Riley Sullivan had 2 RBI each.

North Salem 10, Croton Harmon 9

Saturday, April 18

Sophia Aqeel (3-4, triple, HR, 4 RBI) and Cora Kennedy (3-4, triple, 3 runs) powered the offense, with Cianna Cioce driving in Ocdenaria for the winning run in the bottom of the 8th. Sullivan earned the win on the mound.

Putnam Valley 23, North Salem 4

Monday, April 20

Ferrara and Kennedy both went 2 for 3 with Sullivan (2 RBI) and Ocdenaria (1 RBI) playing hard in the effort.

North Salem 7, Pawling 6 

Wednesday, April 22

Kennedy hit a triple with two outs in the bottom of the 7th and scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Defensively, Erika Saez was solid in center field, and Sullivan picked up another win.

John Jay 17, North Salem 1

Friday, April 24

Aqeel had the only RBI for North Salem in a tough home loss.

Saturday, April 18

The Tigers came up short at home. Jack Braz and Colby Baer each went 2-3 with an RBI.

Jack Luske went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI.

The squad's fortunes didn't improve in the rematch with the Vikings. Adrian Ortiz went 2-3 with an RBI.

William Trickel and Alex Hoffman each had a hit in the effort.
