George D. Blasch passed away at age 96 on August 23 at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY.
George was born on February 22, 1929 in Glendale, NY to the late Augustus and Freida Blasch. George was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Marianne Logemann Blasch.
He is survived by his son David L. Blasch, his wife Susan in Catskill, NY, his daughter Karen A. Meaney and her husband James in Hopewell Junction, NY. He enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren and their families: Krista Espinoza and her husband Carlos, Steven Blasch and his wife Lauren, and Amanda Musser and her husband Doug and five great-grandchildren: Aria and Dylan Blasch and Grace, Katherine and William Musser.
After graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1946, George embarked on a 50 year career in banking with 35 years with Lincoln Savings Bank, retiring as Senior Vice President, 5 years with Tremont Federal Savings & Loan rising to President and CEO, and 11 years with Community Mutual Savings as VP of Operations. He attended night school at New York University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Banking and Finance and an MBA in Management.
George was a longtime member of Ridgewood Kiwanis Club and served on many church finance committees and consistories at the Glendale and Hopewell Junction Reformed Churches. George also greatly enjoyed his 75 years as a Free & Accepted Mason. He became a Mason in 1950 and was elected Master of Granite Lodge No. 1011 in 1959. He served as District Deputy of the 2nd Queen’s District, representing the Grand Master of Masons in NYS from 1970-1971. He became a Scottish Rite 32 Degree Mason and Shriner. He was highly regarded and well respected in the craft and was thus appointed by the Grand Master of New York as a Trustee for NYS Mason’s Hall & Home where he served on the board from 1998-2013 and became Trustee Emeritus. Among his personal Masonic highlights were raising his father Gus in 1959, his son Dave in 1982 and his grandson Steven in 2015 as master masons.
George and Marianne moved in 1995 from Glendale, Queens to Brewster, NY, where he lived until entering care at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY. George and Marianne greatly enjoyed many summers in the country at their vacation home in Catskill, NY. George liked taking care of the grounds in Catskill making sure things were “kept up” for future generations to enjoy.
Throughout his adult life George enjoyed ping pong, bowling, and golf, rooting for the NY football Giants and NY Mets.
Visitation with the family will be held at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster, NY on Saturday September 6, from noon until 4 p.m. A Masonic Service will start at 3 p.m., followed by a religious service and memories from family members. Spreading of the ashes will be done privately by the family.
