NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Saddle up.
If it’s September, then it must be time for the equestrian event of the season – the Old Salem Farm fall horse show.
The North Salem venue’s full schedule features events ranging from national-level competitions to classes for young, developing horses and beginners.
The magnificent animal athletes and their humans seeking points and awards will be judged on skill, speed, and presentation over various courses of fences.
Week 1 takes place from Tuesday, Sept. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 14; Week 2, from Tuesday, Sept. 16 through Sunday, Sept. 21.
The action starts at 8 a.m. each day and runs in three rings simultaneously until 4 p.m.
Admission is free. The show goes on rain or shine.
“This is a community event,” said Vandy Lipman, OSF’s director of marketing and sponsorship, noting that it’s held in the “heart of horse country, surrounded by beautiful farms.”
“We love it when North Salem comes out,” she said.
Competitions are held at OSF all year long. In the winter, they move things indoors.
Among the amenities are pop-up boutiques with clothing, jewelry, and equestrian supplies, gourmet and casual food, and VIP seating in a tent overlooking the arena.
There will be family activities such as pony rides and face painting, too.
While there are no bleachers, folks are welcome to bring their own chairs and picnic blankets and camp out on the hill. There will be places to sit and relax in the vendor area as well.
The show’s main sponsor is JP Morgan Private Bank.
