Dear Editor,
It truly takes a village.
In moments of uncertainty and hardship, you learn very quickly what kind of community you live in. North Salem has once again proven that we are a town that shows up — quietly, generously, and with heartfelt compassion.
As I face the difficult journey of cancer care, the outpouring of support has been nothing short of extraordinary. From useful gifts, to meals dropped at doorsteps, prayers, transportation offers, and simple check-in calls and texts, every act of kindness matters. Cancer treatment can be physically, emotionally, and financially overwhelming, but knowing your community stands beside you makes all the difference.
We often talk about civic pride in North Salem: our history, our traditions, our volunteer spirit. But the true character of a community, just like as in friends and families, is revealed not at celebrations, but in challenges.
To everyone who cooked, drove, called, prayed, or simply reached out — thank you. Your generosity reflects the very best of Westchester. It reminds us that even in difficult seasons, we are never alone.
It takes a village, and I am grateful to call this one home.
-Nzingha Milanes, North Salem
