NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Dr. Julio Vazquez is bidding farewell to the North Salem Central School District, where he’s served in various administrative posts for the past 11 years, most recently as its director of instruction and human resources, Halston Media has learned.
Vazquez was appointed as the City School District of New Rochelle’s new assistant superintendent for human resources after a unanimous vote by the Board of Education there on Wednesday, June 17.
(According to the CSDNR, he assumes the post on July 1, succeeding Joan Garone, who is stepping down at the end of the current school year.)
Vazquez joins other North Salem educators who have left recently for leadership positions in other school districts.
Also as of July 1, Somers Middle School/High School Principal Vince DiGrandi will be the new superintendent of the Mahopac Central School District and SMSHS’s assistant principal, Dr. Kathleen Murphy, will be director of secondary education curriculum at the Lakeland Central School District.
Prior to being North Salem’s director of instruction and human resources, Vazquez was an assistant principal. Before that, he worked for the Wappingers Central School District and the Newburgh Enlarged School District.
New Rochelle sent Halston Media a press release in which its schools superintendent praised Vazquez for his “robust background in education and administration.”
“He is deeply knowledgeable about and familiar with the education system in Westchester County and in New York state and will be an asset in bringing strong talent to serve our students,” Dr. Corey W. Reynolds wrote.
Vazquez earned his Doctor of Education degree at Western Connecticut State University and received an advanced certificate in School and School District Administration from SUNY New Paltz. He completed his undergraduate degree in Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Southern California and his master’s degree in Elementary Education and Teaching at Bank Street College of Education.
New Rochelle also released a statement by Vazquez.
“I am truly honored and grateful to join the City School District of New Rochelle” he said. “New Rochelle is a wonderful community that proudly celebrates its diversity and strives for excellence. I look forward to working closely with Dr. Reynolds, our exceptional administrators, staff, talented students, dedicated families, and Board of Education. Together, we will strive to ensure that our students and staff have the support, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive and succeed.”
