BREWSTER, N.Y. - The Croton Falls Fire Department was among several mutual aid agencies that responded on Sunday, July 12, to assist the Brewster Fire Department at a working structure fire on Middle Branch Road in Brewster.
Brewster Assistant Chief Daniel Rubin was the first to arrive and confirmed a working fire. According to the Brewster Fire Department, the blaze began on a grill located on the rear deck of the home before spreading into the eaves and rear of the structure.
Brewster firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the exterior of the residence and thick smoke throughout the first floor. Crews launched an aggressive interior attack while additional firefighters worked outside to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.
The Croton Falls Fire Department joined firefighters from Carmel, Mahopac, and Lake Carmel in providing mutual aid at the scene. Meanwhile, the Putnam Lake and Somers Fire Departments covered Brewster headquarters to ensure emergency coverage remained available while crews battled the blaze.
The coordinated response allowed firefighters to bring the main body of the fire under control within about 10 minutes of the first apparatus arriving on scene.
The Brewster Fire Department thanked all of the responding mutual aid departments, including the Croton Falls Fire Department, for their assistance and professionalism in helping bring the incident to a successful conclusion.
