NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - North Salem's boys soccer squad began their quest for a third straight state title by going on the road for a physical battle with the Rams on Sept. 3
Carmel found the back of the net first, but the Tigers refused to back down with relentless pressure that included breakaway chances for Liam Keegan and Juben Lazri.
Senior Isaac Rouse would finally break through to score the equalizer with 4:25 remaining in the first half.
A blast from Lazri would give the Tigers the lead early in the second frame, but the Rams bounced back to tie and netted the deciding goal with 4:11 remaining.
Undettered by dropping the opener, the Tigers found their way into the win column two days later at home with a 2-1 win over Rye Neck.
Captain Jason Gjushi got North Salem on the board first off an assist from Rouse. Rye Neck would respond to send the contest into the half tied 1-1.
Late in the second frame, sophomore Adrian Ortiz scored the game-winner off a feed from Keegan.
Sophomore Joseph Vorfi and 8th grader Mateo Maya split keeper duties with 3 saves apiece.
