MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - Dog lovers looking for a loyal companion should mark their calendars for Saturday, Sept. 13, to meet the adoptable puppies brought to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church by SPCA Westchester’s mobile adoption unit.
The regional no-kill shelter offers adoptees transferred from homes where they were neglected, or puppies rescued from overcrowded kill shelters in the U.S. South.
Kara Berardi, SPCA Westchester’s senior donor relations and events manager, said it’s a great opportunity to find a sweet pup.
“It’s a great thing having a dog,” says Kara Berardi, SPCA Westchester’s senior donor relations and events manager. “A dog will be your constant companion. They are so loyal. Helping to save an animal’s life can bring fulfillment and purpose to your life. You can realize the joy that comes with caring for an animal.”
The mobile adoption unit, which went into service in May 2024, has so far hosted 52 events around Westchester.
The event at St. Mark’s on Sept. 13 takes place during SeptemberFest, Mount Kisco’s biggest block party, sponsored by the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce. It will be the mobile unit’s first visit to Mount Kisco.
SPCA Westchester, located in Briarcliff Manor, is one of the nation’s largest no-kill shelters. The nonprofit agency also serves as humane law enforcement throughout Westchester County via its hotline, 914-941-2896.
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2025, is located at 85 E. Main St., Mount Kisco, at the intersection of NY Routes 133 and 117.
The agency will bring 8 to 10 dogs to St. Mark’s. The adoption fee for dogs is $450, which includes a microchip implant and vaccinations. Visit the agency’s website at spcawestchester.org to fill out the online adoption application and read the FAQ about what to expect at a mobile adoption event.
