POUND RIDGE, N.Y. - With the holidays approaching, neighbors proved that gratitude is more than a feeling — it’s an action.
On Friday, Nov. 14, volunteers crowded into The Market in Pound Ridge to pack and deliver 275 full Thanksgiving dinners for families across Westchester County.
The annual effort is led by the New Dawn Family Resource Center in partnership with the Fortin family, owners of The Market. Together with the Westchester County High Risk Team and a host of volunteers, they assembled and distributed complete holiday meals — from whole turkeys and stuffing to pies — for households facing food insecurity.
“This event truly embodies the meaning of community,” said Market owner Billy Fortin. “Everyone came together with one purpose — to ensure that no family goes without a Thanksgiving meal.”
Alongside boxes of food, the day brought additional support for those in crisis. Westchester County Legislator Erika Pierce attended the gathering to present New Dawn with a $20,000 check, backing a service contract that will help the organization continue its work assisting individuals and families affected by domestic violence.
The effort also extended beyond meal distribution, generating support for local organizations working to protect and empower vulnerable residents. Beneficiaries included Hope’s Door, My Sisters’ Place, the Putnam Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center, Pace Women’s Justice Center, the Office for Women, Westchester Medical Center, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Elmsford.
Volunteers from the High Risk Team, New Dawn, and the wider community packed bags side by side, filling The Market with the sounds of laughter, early-morning chatter, and a shared sense of gratitude.
“Each year, this collaboration grows stronger,” said New Dawn Board President Lynn Borsellino. “It’s inspiring to see the community unite to uplift others, especially during the holiday season.”
