As of Friday morning's deadline (May 29), Fox Lane remained firmly in contention as the No. 2 seed in the Section 1 Class B girls’ lacrosse playoffs, preparing for a marquee semifinal matchup against No. 3 Yorktown later that day. Find updates at MountKiscoBedfordTimes.com.
The Foxes entered the matchup against the juggernaut Huskers at 16-1, a record built on consistent, high-octane performances throughout the spring. Their latest statement win came in the quarterfinals, where the Foxes dispatched Carmel, 16-5, behind a balanced and overpowering offensive showing.
All-Section senior midfielder Cora Moore, as she has done all season, set the tone, scoring four goals and adding two assists while dominating the circle with 10 draw controls. Fellow All-Section senior Michaela Kaltsas matched her with four goals, an assist, and four draws of her own.
The current state of the program was built on their foundation, but the program’s future was on full display as well. Freshman Taylor Webb delivered a hat trick and three assists, while seventh‑grader Hadley Webb contributed two goals and an assist. Junior Dylan New added a pair of goals, eighth‑grader Julia Sirchia scored once, and freshman goalie Molly Rodriguez recorded five saves.
Even with Moore, Kaltsas, and several senior leaders set to graduate, Fox Lane’s underclass pipeline signals a program built for sustained success under coach Jaime Williams. With impact players emerging from seventh grade through junior year, the Foxes appear poised to remain a force in Section 1 for seasons to come.
Fox Lane closed out its regular season in emphatic fashion, rolling past Irvington 17-1 on Senior Day to lock in momentum heading into the postseason.
New powered the offense with a six‑point outing, scoring five goals and adding an assist. Webb continued her breakout season with a three‑goal, four‑assist performance while also collecting two draw controls. Moore delivered a balanced effort with two goals, two assists, and two draws, and Sirchia chipped in two goals and three draw controls. Kaltsas added two goals and four draw controls, while Piper Skinner scored twice and Webb added a goal.
Defensively, Maddie Greene anchored the unit with three caused turnovers, and Rodriguez recorded five saves to cap a dominant team performance.
Fox Lane’s mix of senior leadership and emerging young talent was on full display, an encouraging sign as the postseason begins and the future runs rampant in the system.
“This is our fourth time in five years making it to the sectional semifinals,” coach Williams said. “The girls worked hard this season and have been a very close group. They bought into a team-first attitude. The senior prom is tomorrow, and the seniors will miss the beginning of prom due to our semifinal game.”
That is what coaches call dedication, and the youth within the program are seeing a fine example set by the seniors.
“Despite having a young team, we had a lot of success,” the coach added. “Including our freshman goalie, Molly Rodriguez; attack, seventh grader Hadley Webb; ninth-grade attacker, Taylor Webb; and eighth-grade midfielder, Julia Sirchia. On defense, we’ve had freshman Phoebe Fisher and eighth-grader Ava Oliva.
The Foxes have displayed exemplary defense led by Olyvia Wong, Isabel Valenzuela, Greene and Fisher.
On offense, the Foxes have set several milestones this spring, including Kaltsas (300 career points), Moore (200 career points, 300 draw controls), New (100 career points), Webb (100 career points).
Fruitful indeed!
Going up against top-seeded, seven-time NYSPHSAA champion Yorktown in the Section 1 Class B playoffs is never an enviable situation, but No. 8 often meets No. 1 in the sectional quarterfinals, and that was the draw coach Charlie Rice’s Foxes were faced with.
The Husker coaching staff – among the best in Section 1 – knew they had to lock off Fox Lane sophomore Drew Nathan, a seriously budding attackman, who scored six goals and dished out an assist in the Foxes’ 17-7 opening-round win over Clarkstown North.
And the Huskers did just that in a 15-2 Yorktown win on May 22.
Senior M Ryan Hardie (1G), freshman A Sam Randol (1G) and senior M/A Colin Isabella (1A) all found the stat sheet, but junior G Luke Valenti (14 saves) was under constant pressure.
In the opening-round win over Clarkstown North, Nathan (6G, 1A) provided a glimpse of a promising future, and senior Ryan Hardie (4G) finished strong, as did senior Tyler Davidson (2G, 1A), junior Justin Cohen (2G), senior Leo Crisostomo Garcia (1G, 1A) and freshman Sam Randol (3A). Valenti (13 saves) defended the back line with senior D Will Broghammer.
“I think the season was a success despite the overall record (6-10),” Rice said. “We played extremely competitive games throughout the season with eight of them being decided by three or fewer goals. We were able to get big league wins against Nyack and Carmel in two of those games. We were able to host a home playoff game for the first time since 2022. We were able to have a massive team effort where we had many contributors to beat Clarkstown North. The defense played extremely well as they did for most of the season. Luke Valenti is special, averaging close to 16 saves a game, getting him to 278 saves on the season and 434 in his two years at Fox Lane. Senior Will Broghammer has been a true anchor on that end and in between the lines, leading the team in caused turnovers (50) and ground balls (82), playing almost every faceoff wing and being an X factor in the clear. It took a little while to get going after losing 80 percent of scoring from 2025 on offense, but we started to play better in the last half of the season.”
Broghammer was flanked by senior Eddie Lopez, junior Owen Heilman and received great LSM play from juniors Luis Rodriguez, Teddy Kao and sophomore Lucas Vallejos, who is slick off the ground and in transition. SSDM Leo Crisostomo was a true shutdown defender doing all of the little things from playing perfect on-ball defense, getting tough GBs and clearing the ball to spark transition. Nathan emerged as a massive scoring threat (46G, 6A) who has great inside finishing ability and a strong midrange shot.
“He plays extremely well without the ball to get scoring opportunities,” Rice said. “The youth movement continues with freshman attackman Sam Randol (13G, 7A) emerging as the team’s second-leading scorer with a balanced effort, showing great vision, especially in transition offense.”
Junior Sean Fabry rounds out the fully returning attack unit as another double-digit scorer with 13G and 7A. Major contributions in the midfield came through a pair of seniors in Ryan Hardie and Tyler Davidson. At 6-foot-5, Hardie proved down the stretch to be a dominant dodger and goal scorer (19G, 7A), scoring the game-winner in the Nyack game and having numerous important goals in close games. Davidson (14G, 10A) battled through injuries playing both attack and midfield, having his best game with a four-goal performance and the game-winner against Carmel. Juniors Justin Cohen and Chase Stonecipher and senior Colin Isabella played their best lacrosse at the end of the season, finding their groove within the offense.
Faced with a brutal 0-6 start this spring, Fox Lane coach Matt Hillis said: “We’ll figure it out."
And the Foxes did just that—stringing together wins in eight of nine to help secure a No. 6 seed in the Class AA tournament while entering at 9-10 overall. After defeating No. 11 Suffern, 4-1, in the opening round behind All-Section RHP Jackson Carroll, just a junior, the defending Section champion and NYS runner-up Foxes were eliminated in a 2-0 quarterfinal loss to No. 2 Yorktown.
While the 18-time league champion Foxes didn’t live up to their normal standards, nobody expects this dip to last long, especially with Carroll returning as a third-year ace in 2027.
“Thanks to our seniors whose work ethic remained steadfast after a difficult start,” coach Hillis said. “They will all be missed.”
The 10th-seeded Fox Lane softball team had its season come to a close in a 7-4 loss to No. 7 Mahopac to finish at 9-12 on the year.
“Disappointing finish, to say the least,” said coach Michael Olivier, who was expecting more than a first-round exit.
Junior pitcher, Sofia Rodriguez, reached 500 strikeouts in her varsity career, earning All-Section honors. Junior 3B Sammi Saldutti finished the season with a batting average of .373 with 22 hits and two home runs. Junior IF Sofia Valente finished with a batting average of .349 and 22 hits. Both Saldutti and Valente received All-Section honorable mention. Three other Foxes received All-Section honors, including junior OF Jojo Kerwar, sophomore C Nora Antonaccio and senior IF Avery Genovese.
“We are graduating just three seniors – Valentina Deluca, Emily Sullivan and Avery Genovese – so the future is bright,” Olivier said.
The vastly improved sixth-seeded Foxes finished up at 12-5-1, falling to No. 3 Mahopac, 19-7, in the quarterfinal round of the Section 1 Class B playoffs after an opening-round 19-0 win over Carmel.
