MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - Westchester County Police responded to a variety of calls to close out the month, including a man breaking into unlocked vehicles, a youth dealing with an emotional crisis, and an attempted break-in at a local bar.
April 28
Report received at 1:58 a.m. that a man was seen rummaging through unlocked vehicles in a private parking lot in the 200 block of Main Street. An officer who was nearby checked the lot immediately but no one was present. While the officer was on scene, a vehicle owner came out of a bar to report that three fishing rods and some prescription medication were taken from his unlocked car. The victim placed the value of those items at $800. After investigation, the officer developed information about a possible suspect and suspect vehicle involved in the theft. An investigation is continuing.
A 70-year-old village resident was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, a violation, following a minor traffic accident that occurred at 3:04 p.m. on South Moger Avenue. He was also issued a summons for unsafe backing. He is due to answer the charges in Mount Kisco Justice Court on May 8.
An officer responded to a residence on Gregory Avenue at 5:38 p.m. on a report of a youth in emotional crisis. The officer was able to contact the boy’s parents by phone, advised them of the circumstances, and inform them that their son would be taken to Westchester Medical Center for mental health services. He was transported to the hospital by Mount Kisco VAC.
A 19-year-old man was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief at 7:38 p.m. in connection with an attempted break-in at a bar on Main Street. The owner reported a short time earlier that he had just reviewed security video that showed a man trying to force open a rear door with a pry bar about 7 a.m. The video also showed the man spotting the camera and removing it, causing the security video to stop. An officer reviewing the video recognized the suspect from prior interactions. A short time later, that suspect was spotted going into a nearby deli and was taken into custody. The man was booked at the Green Street precinct and released pending a May 8 appearance in Mount Kisco Justice Court.
An officer observed an unattended backpack on a bus stop bench on Carpenter Avenue at 8:20 p.m. The backpack was found to contain multiple DVDs. It was vouchered for safekeeping at the Green Street precinct.
April 29
Report received at 1:38 a.m. that a woman in her 70s had been injured in a fall at her residence on Amuso Drive. The woman told responding officers she had not fallen but had called 911 because she was having difficulty breathing. Westchester EMS responded, provided oxygen to the woman, and then took her to Northern Westchester Hospital for additional medical care.
Report received at 4:40 a.m. of a suspicious vehicle parked at a business on Radio Circle. A woman was found to be sleeping in the car. She told the officer she was an employee of the business and was there because she did not want to stay at the apartment she shares with a boyfriend. A supervisor at the business confirmed the woman’s employment and said the company had no issue with her being on the property before business hours.
A 60-year-old Croton-on-Hudson woman was charged at 2:28 p.m. with Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor, after she left Target on North Bedford Road with $278 worth of merchandise she did not pay for. She was booked at the Green Street precinct and released pending a May 8 appearance in Mount Kisco Justice Court.
April 30
Staff at Las Americas on Main Street contacted police at 11:44 a.m. to turn in a wallet found on its premises. The wallet contained more than $1,400 in cash and personal items belonging to an Ossining man. The man was advised his wallet had been found and he returned to Mount Kisco in the evening to pick it up at the Green Street precinct.
May 2
An officer responded to South Moger Avenue at 1:01 a.m. on a report that a man had fallen and suffered a laceration to his forehead. The man was taken by Mount Kisco VAC to Westchester Medical Center for treatment and further evaluation of his head injury.
A business on South Moger Avenue reported a shoplifting incident at 11:34 a.m. that occurred the previous day. The matter remains under investigation.
An officer responded to a residence on Grove Street at 1:13 p.m. to assist an elderly woman who was having difficulty breathing. Mount Kisco VAC also responded to provide care and transport to Northern Westchester Hospital.
A Kensington Way resident reported at 3:04 p.m. that she has been the victim of identity theft. A report was taken and an investigation is continuing.
Welfare check requested on North Bedford Road at 5:17 p.m. A woman contacted police to report that her husband had gone into a building for a job interview and had not returned to their car, even though the business now looked like it had closed for the day. As an officer responded, the man returned to the vehicle.
