Mount Kisco Police Blotter: Missing teen located, vandalism, supermarket dispute

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - Westchester County Police had a busy end to the month, including reports of a missing teenager, a break-in at a vacant store, and a heated dispute between two supermarket shoppers.

April 20

Report received at 2:15 a.m. that a teenage girl who was reported missing by her family in Bedford might be visiting a friend in Mount Kisco. At the request of Bedford PD, officers went to the friend’s home, and then went to another location at that friend’s suggestion. The teen was not found. At 4:22 a.m., an officer patrolling West Hyatt Avenue in the continuing search for the girl was approached by her. She told the officer that she wanted to go home but had no way to get there. Bedford PD was notified and came to take custody of her.

April 21

A man called police at 2:26 a.m. to report that three men had followed him out of a bar on Main Street and that he felt concerned for his safety. Upon arrival, the man told officers he had not had any interaction with the men inside the bar but feared they might be following him. Officers waited until the man got into a taxi and left the area.

April 22

A property manager reported at 9:51 a.m. that a break-in had occurred at a vacant store in the 100 block of Main Street. The manager said he found a rear door to the store open when he came to check the premises and he found graffiti spray-painted inside. Patrol officers turned the matter over to detectives for continued investigation.

Report received at 5:52 p.m. of a dispute between two motorists on South Moger Avenue. A woman reported that a man became enraged when she beeped at him and he started cursing at her. She cursed back at him and the argument escalated. After confirming that the dispute was verbal in nature only, an officer sent both parties their separate ways.

April 23

Officers responded to Rolling Ridge Court at 6:21 p.m. on an activated burglar alarm. A woman who was at home reported that a basement motion detector had triggered the alarm. Officers searched the basement and the rest of the house. No intruder or sign of forced entry was found.

An employee of an agency that works with persons with mental disabilities reported that one of her clients was shoved to the ground on Carpenter Avenue around 8:30 p.m. The employee said the client described the assailant as a man but could not provide a more detailed description. A report was requested to document the incident.

April 24

Officers responded to a supermarket on North Bedford Road at 11:58 a.m. on a report of a dispute between two customers. A woman told officers that she had argued with another shopper who then pushed a shopping cart toward her before leaving the store.  

Request received at 5:25 p.m. for a welfare check on Stewart Place. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a woman who made the call on behalf of herself and determined she was physically fine and being cared for by a home health aide. The woman’s son was contacted by phone and he reported that his mother likes another health care aide better and gets upset when that aide is not present. No further police assistance was needed.

A Gregory Avenue resident called police at 11:57 p.m. and said there was a man with a gun outside his home. Responding officers searched the property but found no one present. Officers then spoke with the resident who admitted the making the false claim because he was depressed and wanted the police to come to his home. Westchester EMS was requested to respond and transport the man to Westchester Medical Center for a mental health evaluation. Officers also notified the Mobile Crisis Response Team to provide follow-up assistance to the man.

 April 28

Officers responded to Gregory Avenue at 12:11 a.m. on a report that a vehicle had struck two parked cars. Witnesses reported that the driver of a Honda Accord then attempted to drive away from the scene but was prevented from doing so by two residents of the block. After failing a field sobriety test, the driver, a 35-year-old Gregory Avenue resident, was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He also was issued summonses for Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident and Driving Without a License, violations. He was booked at the Green Street precinct and released pending a May 8 appearance in Mount Kisco Justice Court.
