MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - Westchester County Police had a busy start to the month, responding to calls including a Bronx man fleeing from authorities, an emotional crisis, and a domestic dispute.
July 12
A 26-year-old Bronx man was charged with multiple crimes after he fled from an attempted traffic stop at 12:46 a.m. An officer on patrol attempted the traffic stop after observing a BMW sedan traveling in the 500 block of East Main Street with heavily tinted windows and no front license plate. After the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, a description of it was broadcast. About 1:11 a.m., the Real Time Crime Center advised that the BMW was traveling on the southbound Hutchinson River Parkway in New Rochelle. Another officer attempted a traffic stop and once again the BWW driver would not pull over. The BMW exited the parkway in a further attempt to evade capture but was eventually boxed in on a dead-end street in Mount Vernon. The driver ran off but was captured after a foot pursuit. A stun gun and ski mask were found in the car, and its license plate was determined to belong to a different vehicle. The suspect was booked at County Police headquarters on charges of Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Driving and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd Degree, misdemeanors. He was also issued multiple Vehicle & Traffic Law summonses.
A 57-year-old village resident was charged at 10:06 p.m. with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after an officer observed his vehicle being driven erratically on Moore Avenue and on Lexington Avenue. After failing a field sobriety test, the man was booked at the Green Street precinct and released pending a July 17 appearance in Mount Kisco Justice Court.
July 13
An officer on patrol at 2:23 a.m. observed an intoxicated woman in front of a restaurant on Main Street and stopped to check on her. The woman told the officer she was not feeling well and she was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
Report received at 4:48 a.m. of a loud pickup truck traveling on Turner Lane. The vehicle was gone upon an officer’s arrival and could not be located in the surrounding area.
Welfare check requested at 5:17 p.m. at a residence on Amuso Drive. An officer found a 69-year-old man deceased of apparent natural causes. Detectives and the Westchester Medical Examiner’s Office were notified.
Officers responded to Spring Street at 11:24 p.m. on a report of a person in emotional crisis. The Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded and transported the person to Westchester Medical Center for a voluntary mental health evaluation.
July 15
Officers responded at 11:32 p.m. to Hillside Avenue on a report of a youth in emotional crisis. The family requested a mental health evaluation and EMS responded to transport the youth to the hospital.
A passerby flagged an officer down in Kirby Plaza at 4:14 p.m. to report that a man in the area appeared to be in need of assistance. The officer located a man nearby who was upset and crying over his inability to find work. The Mobile Crisis Response Team responded and the officer left the man in its care.
July 16
A 24-year-old Peekskill woman was charged with Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor, after she was detained by security at Target on North Bedford Road at 11 a.m. She is accused shoplifting $360 worth of merchandise. She was booked at the Green Street precinct and released pending a July 31 appearance in Mount Kisco Justice Court. A 2-year-old girl was in her care at the time. The child’s mother was notified to come pick up her daughter.
July 17
Report received at 7:02 a.m. of a domestic dispute at a residence on Lexington Avenue. A man told officers that the dispute was verbal in nature only but that he called police because his girlfriend had previously assaulted him during another argument. He was advised how to file for a Temporary Order of Protection if desired. A Lethality Assessment was conducted and a Domestic Incident Report was prepared.
An auto dealership in the village reported at 12:28 p.m. that two dealer plates were missing from its inventory. DMV was notified.
Report received of a pedestrian struck by a car at Main Street and Lexington Avenue at 5:03 p.m. The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, was conscious and alert after he was struck. He was taken by ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital. Witnesses provided conflicting accounts of whether the pedestrian or driver was at fault. The investigation remains open as officers await access from a local business to security video that may have captured the incident.
July 18
Officers responded to South Moger Avenue at 4:10 p.m. on a report of a missing person who suffers from dementia. The missing party was located in a store on the block. No further police action required.
