MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. — Winter has definitely shown its most aggressive form in the past few weeks. We have experienced bitter cold, gusty winds and, just for fun, a snowmageddon! With that being said, we are more than one-third of the way to March 20, the first day of spring!
The Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce is right here with you, knowing that we are at the mercy of the weather. We want to commend, once again, the crews of the Mount Kisco DPW for a stellar job clearing the streets and parking lots in the village. Please keep them in mind during any plowing event and move your car off the road. It is mandatory during an emergency. It allows street clearing to be more efficient and doesn’t leave your car plowed in. Thank you.
The Chamber is looking forward to several upcoming dates that should bring smiles and warmth: Valentine’s Day and Hop Into Spring. Local merchants will share their Valentine’s Day specials on social media, and we will highlight them through our online presence. The shops look forward to our annual Hop Into Spring on Saturday, March 28. We will share details as the time gets closer.
We feel we must address what is undoubtedly the biggest topic in Mount Kisco, the abrupt closure of the Preston Way bridge. Although the closure would be a tremendous inconvenience at any time of the year, the timing made it worse. The village, holiday shoppers and daily commuters were not given any notice, and the village had just two hours to close it down immediately and indefinitely. Fingers have been pointed and blame assessed; understandable as a gut reaction, but the objective must be to fix the problem and move forward. The village, NYS, DOT and MTA are now in the process of obtaining the necessary contract to rebuild the bridge. Communication is paramount to ensure rumors stop flying and that regular updates are established, so the public is not kept guessing. Follow the village’s website and Facebook page to stay up to date on the latest information.
During the winter months, please remember to support our local businesses. We have many fabulous places to shop, dine, stay/get healthy—a full range of professional services all within three square miles. Let’s keep Mount Kisco vibrant!
Thank you, and stay safe and warm.
