BEDFORD, N.Y. - New York State Police arrested a 56-year-old Darien, Connecticut, man after responding to a report of public lewdness at the Bedford Service Area on southbound Interstate 684 on Sept. 22.
Troopers responded to the service area at approximately 3:24 p.m. and found Virgil J. Naveda naked and exhibiting signs of impairment.
Troopers administered standardized field sobriety tests before taking Naveda into custody.
An impound and inventory search of Naveda’s vehicle allegedly uncovered approximately 66 grams of gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), 49 grams of butanediol, 7 grams of methamphetamine and numerous items of drug paraphernalia.
Naveda was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a Class B felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a Class A misdemeanor; three counts of public lewdness, a Class B misdemeanor; and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor.
Naveda was arraigned on Sept. 24 in Town of Bedford Court. He was released on his own recognizance and directed to return to court on Sept. 30.
