SOMERS, N.Y. - A School Resource Officer in the Somers Central School District was removed from her post today after comments she made on Facebook regarding the murder of political activist Charlie Kirk.
On Friday, Sept. 12, screenshots of posts from SRO Tanisha Blanche’s personal Facebook account began circulating online.
In the posts, Blanche remarked “why yall dont have that same energy for the school shooting that took place yesterday, but yall crying over the man that was ok with gun violence” and “well that white sniper was over qualified when he put that hole in your neck hunni bunni.”
Kirk, the co-founder of the conservative organization Turning Point USA, was shot during an event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. The alleged shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was taken into custody on Sept. 12.
Blanche had been assigned at Somers Intermediate School.
In response to the posts circulating online, Somers Central School District Superintendent Dr. Adam Bronstein issued the following statement to parents on Friday morning:
“This morning, I was alerted to social media posts allegedly made by an employee of the Westchester County Police Department (WCPD), assigned to work in the Somers Central School District (SCSD). The nature of the posts glorifies violence, which is completely unacceptable for someone entrusted with the safety of students and staff members.
Upon learning of the posts this morning, I immediately contacted the Supervisor of the Westchester County School Resource Officers (SRO) unit, who promptly removed the employee from their post. This person has been permanently reassigned and will no longer work within our schools.
School safety is our most sacred and important obligation. Throughout the day today, our Safety & Security Coordinator, Dan Corrado and the WCPD have a plan to ensure all campuses are appropriately supervised. The WCPD has affirmed that another SRO will be assigned to our schools on Monday. I am in touch directly with the police to ensure the safety and continuity of our SRO program going forward.
We appreciate the swift action of the police department to protect our schools.”
Somers community members announced that there would be an evening prayer vigil for Charlie Kirk at Reis Park on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.

As a taxpayer and a member of law enforcement for over 30 years I am dismayed and deeply disappointed by the remarks reported in this article. Hearing something so reprehensible from one of our own gives me serious pause about the School Resource Officer program in Somers. It may be time for the school district to re-evaluate how it provides security-perhaps take a page from Orange county where they utilize a cadet program and staff each school with retired police officers dedicated solely to school safety. Our children deserve protection delivered with dignity and professionalism. This incident should prompt immediate reflection and action to ensure the trust in school security is restored.
