Carol Ann (Gavin) Consiglio peacefully departed this world on January 11, 2025, in Brewster, NY, to enter eternal rest in the arms of Jesus Christ. She was 85 years old.
Carol was born in Brooklyn, NY, to John and Marion (Kirnan) Gavin. She spent part of her early life in Ridgewood, NJ, with her parents and brother, Jack Gavin. She attended high school at St. Luke’s in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, before earning her Bachelor’s degree from Rockland Community College and her Master’s degree from St. Thomas Aquinas College. A dedicated student and trailblazer for her time, Carol established support groups at both colleges to assist young women navigating the collegiate world.
A long-time resident of Suffern, NY, Carol raised her two sons, James ("Jimmy") and Robert ("Bob"), in a loving home surrounded by cherished friends and the extended Consiglio family. She had a fulfilling 26-year career as an English teacher, beginning in Spring Valley and retiring from the Fallsburg Central School District. Carol inspired countless students with her passion for literature and her commitment to education. In retirement, Carol remained a voracious reader and a lifelong learner, with a special interest in the history of the American Civil War. She also found great joy in cheering on the Yankees and taking advantage of Amazon Prime’s two-day delivery.
Carol is survived by her beloved sons, Jimmy (Wilhelmina) of Cape Coral, FL, and Bob (Laura) of New Fairfield, CT. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, who were the light of her life: John Gavin (Amber) Consiglio, A.J. Consiglio, Timothy J. (Sarah) Consiglio, Marianna Katherine (Tripp) Harmon, Brian Gavin Consiglio, and Raymond Consiglio. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Gavin Consiglio and Lexi Consiglio, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Sadie Allison Harmon in April. Her cherished nieces, Arlynn Consiglio Noks and Gina Gavin, brought her incredible joy and love. Carol was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Jack Gavin.
Carol will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her devotion to her family, and her inspiring dedication to education and lifelong learning. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her family will honor and celebrate her life on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue in Brewster, NY.
