BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. - The Bedford Hills Fire Department had a busy start to the new year, responding to a vehicle fire on Jan. 4 while crews were already committed to a pair of motor vehicle accidents along the Saw Mill River Parkway.
At approximately 9:45 a.m., Car 2034, Engine 198, and Tanker 5 were dispatched to the scene of vehicle fire on Old Wagon Road. While en route, Car 2034 reported a visible header of smoke and confirmed an active fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a pickup truck with an attached plow fully involved in flames, located approximately 75 feet from a nearby structure.
Engine 198 stretched a 150-foot 1¾-inch hoseline and began extinguishment operations, while Tanker 5 supplied additional water to support the effort. Engine 199 and Rescue 10, which had been operating at a separate incident, worked there for approximately 35 minutes before being cleared and responding to the vehicle fire to provide additional manpower.
Firefighters remained on scene for about an hour before the incident was brought under control.
