The Bedford Democratic Committee on April 14 endorsed Beth Davidson in the race for the NY-17 congressional seat, backing the Rockland County legislator in a Democratic primary field seeking to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. Mike Lawler in 2026.
Davidson, who chairs the county’s Environment Committee and serves as vice chair of the Housing and Economic Development Committee, is a former Nyack School Board member with more than two decades of public service. Her background also includes work with EMILY’s List, where she supported the election of pro-choice Democratic women nationwide, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, where she focused on awareness and fundraising. She also volunteers with the Rockland County Pride Center.
“Beth Davidson has decades of experience serving her community, and a legacy of fighting for our most vulnerable,” Bedford Democratic District Leader Kevin McAvey said. “She is a skilled listener and tireless coalition-builder. Beth has the temperament and track record to win this election – and deliver for our district.”
As of this writing, the Democratic field also includes Cait Conley, former director for counterterrorism on the National Security Council at the White House, and Tarrytown trustee Effie Phillips-Staley (who recently debated Davidson at Manhattanville College). Candidates Mike Sacks and John Cappello were not invited to the debate, while former Briarcliff Manor mayor Peter Shatzky has suspended his campaign.
The Democratic primary is scheduled for June 23, 2026, with early voting set to begin June 1.
