BEDFORD, N.Y. - Art Show: Bedford, a beloved winter tradition known for its welcoming atmosphere and high-quality artwork, will return this month for its 53rd year, continuing its long-standing mission of showcasing local artists while supporting area charities.
This year’s show will feature the work of 45 artists, blending familiar favorites with new faces. Patrons can expect a wide range of media and price points, with many artists present throughout the event to talk about their work and engage with visitors—one of the hallmarks that has made the show a community favorite for more than five decades.
A highlight of the annual event is the invitation mailed to more than 1,000 homes in early January, which sets the tone for the show. According to committee chair Tara Deeks, selecting the featured artwork is a point of pride for the organizers. “The artwork we feature is very important,” she said, noting that in recent years the invitation has showcased the work of renowned local artists and longtime friends of the show. This year’s featured artist is Kendall Klingbeil, a Pound Ridge–based painter known for her versatility and wide-ranging style. Klingbeil has created a striking and original depiction of the iconic Bedford Oak, which will be available for purchase at the preview party.
The preview party, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 23, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., is one of the most popular events on Bedford’s winter social calendar. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres provided by Happiness Is, live music by Mark Weigel & Friends, and refreshments served by the Men of St. Matthew’s.
Tickets for the event are available at www.artshowbedford.org.
Hosted by St. Matthew’s for 53 years, Art Show: Bedford has remained true to its simple mission: supporting local artists and giving back to the community. Deeks said many of the show’s beneficiary charities have remained consistent over time, allowing the committee to build lasting relationships. “In many instances, parishioners of St. Matthew’s are board members or active supporters, so we try to do more than just write a check,” she said.
This year’s beneficiary charities include A-Home; Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester; Community Center of Northern Westchester; Endeavor Therapeutic Horsemanship; Hope’s Door; Hour Children; Midnight Run; Neighbors Link; New Dawn; Rehabilitation Through the Arts; and The Pantry.
In addition to the exhibition and sale, a silent auction will run throughout the show and close at 3 p.m. on the final day. Auction items will range from dog training packages to stays at holiday homes.
The exhibition and sale will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 24–25 and Jan. 30–31 and Feb. 1.
Organizers encourage residents to attend, whether to find a special piece of art, support local artists, or contribute to organizations that serve neighbors in need.
