Andrew James Gilyard was born in South Carolina to James W. Gilyard and Mozzle (Gilyard) Wright on September 2, 1948. He was the third born of their children.
Andrew attended school alongside his siblings, cousins and a host of other close family members growing up in South Carolina. As a young man he decided to leave his rural birthplace to follow much beloved family members to New York.
Upon settling in Mount Kisco, New York he found employment at Northern Westchester Hospital where he met and later married Donna Tompkins. Together they were blessed with two children.
Andrew worked as a dedicated employee of Whalen's Moving & Storage until his official retirement. There he became a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (Local 456). In the years to follow he kept busy with his hard work ethic at the local American Legion.
Andy maintained many lifelong friendships within the community. He will be greatly missed by all. He leaves to mourn his passing: his children, Andre "Jayson" Gilyard, Raina Gilyard-Crowther and husband Nicholas Crowther, Patricia Mazzullo, Tina Mazzullo and Mia Tucker; grandchildren Raleigh Crowther and Alister Crowther; siblings, Freddie Gilyard, Carnetta Rayford, Lawrence Wright Jr. and Minne Wright; along with many other caring family members and friends. He was preceded in death by Donna Tompkins Gilyard, his parents and brother, James Gilyard.
Family and friends are invited to Bethel Baptist Church, 37 Maple Avenue Mount Kisco, New York 10549 on Saturday November 1, 2025 from 9 to 10 a.m. for visitation. A Funeral Service will take place at 10 a.m. Burial will follow Oakwood Cemetery. 304 Lexington Avenue Mt. Kisco, NY 10549
