April showers bring May flowers, so we should have a colorful spring. Let’s be grateful for the renewal of the gardens and trees, and for the ability to put the heavy coats away!
The Ancient Order of Hibernians hosted their annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 8, to an enthusiastic crowd. It was absolutely the finest show around and the unofficial kickoff to spring. Thank you to all the organizations, dancers, local dignitaries, and bands who marched. Many thanks also to the parade watchers—you made the day! A huge thank you goes to the Village of Mount Kisco and the hard-working DPW—you all made it go smoothly.
Hop Into Spring was on Saturday, March 28. The Bunny hopped through the village as the participating merchants handed out filled eggs to the little ones following the bunny trail. Thank you to the shops for their continued support of our events.
The MK Chamber hosted a Coffee with the Mayor on Thursday, March 19. Both the mayor and those in attendance addressed several topics. Foremost were updates on the Preston Way Bridge. The village manager has been authorized to execute the Master Entry Permit Agreement between the Village and the MTA and Metro-North Railroad. Then an issuance of replacement bids will happen. At that point, the true cost of replacement should be determined, as should the completion of the necessary approval paperwork with NYSDOT. The estimated timeframe remains 18-24 months.
There is also the looming issue of what can be done concerning the men who continue to drink and be drunk in public, causing people to feel very uncomfortable and even threatened. Our emergency services, including the hospital, have been severely stressed. Mayor Cindrich explained that there is now an increase in police presence, with the intention of helping those who are willing (by bringing in mental health professionals, AA, and disseminating info on organizations that can provide assistance) and bringing others into legal compliance. Updates will be shared on the village website, and the Chamber plans to continue the open discussion with the mayor and other pertinent professionals.
Chamber Honors, a significant event for the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce, is quickly approaching. The 2026 Honorees were introduced at our Board Meeting breakfast at Genesis Saw Mill. We are very proud to announce Dan and Sammi Taplitz as Citizens of the Year, Mt. Kisco Dental Group as Business of the Year, and Community Living Corporation (CLC) as Organization of the Year! The date is Thursday, June 4, at the Mount Kisco Country Club. We are looking forward to celebrating with these very worthy honorees.
