MAHOPAC, N.Y.—The Mahopac HS girls basketball team was expecting more when it rolled into John Jay High in East Fishkill last Tuesday (Feb. 4) evening. But the Wolf Pac couldn’t find their rhythm, and ended up falling behind early, and dropping a 50-37 league decision.

“We shot very poorly from the field,"Mahopac coach Jason Conklin said. “Our shots were not falling, and our energy level was not what we’re used to. It’s a little concerning to see that this late in the season, but some of the little stuff didn’t go our way. Overall, we couldn’t put the ball in the hoop.  We did feel we were the better team coming in, so hopefully that set a fire under our girls.“

Caily Salon led Mahopac (10–7, 4–3) with 12 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots, Giana Puckhaber added eight points and five rebounds, and Mady Ford had eight points, five rebounds, and one blocked shot.

Despite the setback, Conklin said the team has been playing well, and has the potential to be trouble for opponents in the upcoming playoffs.

“Right now I feel like we can be a team no one wants to see,” Conklin said. “We have athletes on the defensive end who can get to it, and I believe we can go on a scary run.”

Mahopac‘s game scheduled for last Thursday against Yorktown was postponed due to snow, and rescheduled for Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Mahopac. The Wolf Pac also hosts Carmel Friday at 6:30 p.m. on Senior Night.
