MAHOPAC, N.Y.—June 6 was a day of celebration for Scouting America’s Troop 1 of Mahopac, as scouts, families, and local leaders gathered for the Spring Court of Honor.
Troop 1 Eagle Scout and Assistant Scoutmaster Jozef Bachleda recognized the following scouts for earning rank advancements: Tenderfoot Scout Johnny Nikolopoulos; Second Class Scouts Troy Garcia, Dylan Fumusa, and Frederick James; First Class Scouts Daniel Azzinaro and Logan Buehl; Star Scout Timothy Kennedy; and Life Scout Liam Mortimer, who was also named the troop’s new senior patrol leader.
Congratulations also went to Eagle Scout candidate Cooper Grimm for reaching his Eagle project fundraising goals. Grimm is working to create an outdoor classroom for Mahopac Middle School.
Local dignitaries attended the event and presented proclamations to the rank-advancing scouts. Those in attendance included Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne, County Legislature Chair Amy Sayegh, Carmel Supervisor Mike Cazzari, and Carmel Councilman Robert Kearns. Honored guests also included Lake Mahopac Rotary President-elect Rick Dutra and Scouting America’s Greater Hudson Valley Assistant District Commissioner Dr. Maria Rivera.
Troop 1 Committee Chair Jennifer Vincent, Scoutmaster Vincent Azzinaro, and troop members also presented the first annual Joseph Greenfield Award of Excellence to Charter Representative Joseph Greenfield, recognizing his 35-plus years of service, dedication, and commitment to Scouting and Troop 1.
Closing remarks were delivered by newly elected Senior Patrol Leader Liam Mortimer and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader Daniel Azzinaro, who reflected on the values of Scouting and the importance of community and national service.
The ceremony concluded with Troop bugler Dylan Fumusa playing taps in honor of the nation’s fallen service members.
