ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT

Trinchitella shines on defense, leads by example on, off field

Posted

Since he was 6 years old, anyone who watched him in action saw the fire within and the uber-competitiveness of Mahopac senior Michael Trinchitella—and knew it was next-level stuff. He didn’t take losing very well, and he didn’t lose very often in his early Mahopac Sports Association days. He’s carried that never-say-die attitude into his varsity football career at Mahopac High School.

“Trinch,” as his friends call him, never takes a down off, never does anything less than full throttle, and never leaves a teammate out to dry. A linebacker by trade, Trinchitella led the Wolf Pac in tackles (54) during a 5-4 season.

Mahopac football coach Dominick DeMatteo spotted a blue-chip prospect the minute he saw the three-year varsity player.

“Michael has been one of the most reliable and consistent players we have had in our program for the past three seasons,” DeMatteo said. “Trinch earned a spot in our linebacker rotation midway through his sophomore season, and he has excelled ever since. Trinch has been a true leader for our program and specifically our defense the past two seasons. He has been one of the most athletic and physical linebackers in Class A and a true leader by example. I'm excited to watch him continue his academic and athletic career at the collegiate level.”

He’s an interesting cat, for sure, with a lot to offer the Mahopac community in terms of giving back to the MSA football fellowship. He’s also a member of the National Honor Society.
