The Mahopac Sports Association (MSA) is stepping up again to help improve conditions at town athletic facilities, with the Carmel Town Board formally accepting two donations during its May 6 meeting.
The board approved resolutions accepting a specialized puddle pump from the MSA baseball program and a storage shed from the MSA soccer program for use by the town’s Recreation and Parks Department.
According to Recreation and Parks Director Nina Kallmeyer, the baseball program donated a Turtledrain puddle pump known as “The Skipper,” which is designed to remove standing water from playing surfaces more efficiently after rainstorms.
“This pump will allow us to better remove water from playing surfaces without removing material and creating bigger low spots,” Kallmeyer wrote in a letter to the Town Board requesting acceptance of the donations. She added that the equipment “would expedite the process of making fields playable after rain events.”
The second donation, from the MSA soccer program, is a storage shed that will be installed at Airport Park.
Kallmeyer said the soccer program currently stores extra equipment inside a garage at the Airport Park building, along with several job boxes” located throughout the property. The new shed, she explained, “would allow for them to better centralize their storage, as well as open critical space in the garage for our Maintenance team to store town equipment.”
Earlier this spring, MSA donated clay and turf to be used at the baseball fields at McDonough Park.
The donations were accepted unanimously by the Town Board.
