Dear Editor,
As we celebrate the birth of our great nation this July 4th, the North Salem Republican Town Committee would like to take a moment to honor a group of Americans who too often go unrecognized: the men and women of our armed forces. While political debates often focus on wealth or status, we believe the real “1%” worthy of attention are those who wear the uniform of the United States military. Fewer than 1% of Americans serve today, yet they stand ready to defend the freedoms we all enjoy.
It was freedom that inspired our founders in 1776, declaring that our rights come not from government, but from God, and that no man should rule another without consent. That powerful belief launched a revolution and gave birth to the greatest country in the world.
Since then, every generation of Americans has been called to defend those same ideals, and it has always been a small group that steps forward first. From Lexington and Concord to Normandy, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and beyond, our service members have carried the weight of liberty on their shoulders so the rest of us could live in peace.
Their sacrifice reminds us that freedom is not guaranteed; it is earned, protected, and passed down. We encourage our community to remember and thank those who serve. Their courage, commitment, and love of country embody the spirit of 1776.
This Independence Day, let’s celebrate what unites us: our shared history, our enduring Constitution, and the countless opportunities this nation still offers to all who seek them. Let’s proudly fly our flags, sing our national anthem, and honor the red, white, and blue.
If you were unable to get an American Flag limited print at our Flag Day event, there are a few left for purchase in celebration of this Independence Day and month until sold out. Please email us at northsalemrepublicans@gmail.
In Liberty,
The North Salem Republican Town Committee
